About Me

about meWelcome to Chasing Happiness. My name is Crystal Steers and I started this site initially as a way to document my journey to find what I wanted out of life. What made me happy, and the process it took me to get there.

After getting my B.A. in Psychology in 2010, I realized I didn’t want to go into any of the available job fields related to my area of study. So I started my own business and did some traveling.

In May of 2015, I was running my business and realized that what I was doing didn’t make me happy. It didn’t give me a reason to get out of bed every day and live life to the fullest. It didn’t even give me purpose. I knew something needed to change but I didn’t know what that was or how to change it. I struggled for a month trying to figure out what to do. In June of that year, I made the choice to close down my business. I had no idea what I was going to do with my life but I knew it needed to be something that would change and challenge me.

Within a week of closing my business I was presented with an opportunity to move across the country. I jumped at it, knowing that the life altering change I wanted couldn’t happen if I kept doing the same thing I’d been doing. So I sold about 80% of everything I owned and set off on my first journey across Canada. I started the Chasing Happiness Blog as a way to document my journey and allow my friends and family to stay up to date on my life.

In the last two years since I started Chasing Happiness, I’ve been to Ontario, all over Alberta (including Banff National Park, Wood Buffalo National Park, Elk Island National Park, Jasper National Park), Northwest Territories, California and Florida. I’ve been on more flights than I can count and have been able to experience life in a way that I didn’t even know was possible.

When I chose to start traveling the world I found parts of myself I hadn’t known existed. I went to Ireland alone for two weeks and just backpacked around the country. That experience changed my life in so many ways that I decided to change this blog into a community. I knew I wanted to share my story but I also wanted to share the stories of people who, like myself, had made drastic changes in their lives to find happiness.

We’ve grown so much from the little one-page blog that started this journey. We now have this new website, a Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram and a Podcast all because of YOU. I hope what you find here is more than just a community of supporters, I hope you find the inspiration to follow your own dreams with us and chase your version of the happiest life possible.
