How can one properly celebrate a birthday, let alone a ‘big’ birthday, without being able to do anything of note? It’s something I’ve spent the last couple of months thinking about. I had a feeling this would be the case, given how the last year had played out, so I started making other plans.
At some point, I will take a big trip and celebrate in a fun and meaningful way. For now, however, I’ve decided to do a few meaningful things this year (while most of the world is in lockdown) that allow me to not only give back but to enjoy the year ahead.
I plan to interview several charities for the Chasing Happiness Podcast to help raise awareness of some of the wonderful work being done, not just in my community but around the world, to bring about positive change. If you know of some I should get in touch with; please let me know.
I will attempt to cook or bake 40 things (since I’ll be 40) throughout the year that I’ve never attempted to make before. I’m excited and a little scared about this one, but it should be fun.
I am going to read 40 books this year. I know this may seem like an impossible task. However, you know how much I enjoy reading. With the Chasing Happiness Bookclub, we read 11 books a year already. As someone reminded me last week, this is less than one book a week, so I think this is totally manageable. I’ve already had a good start at this as I have a couple of books under my belt already this month.
40 tends to be a big year for a lot of people. I’m no different in that aspect, I had huge plans for what this year would be, but just like the rest of you, I’m having to adapt and be flexible in this new world we are all navigating.
I’m sure over the year, I will think of other wonderful things to do that will help me celebrate amazingly, but for now, I hope to enjoy the fact that I am blessed with another year to keep trying. Another year to learn and try my best to be the best version of myself that I can be.
