At the start of this week, I felt lost. I felt alone. I was starting to feel like I would never figure out where my life needed to go. I felt trapped in a dark room without a flashlight. I had no idea how I was going to get out. Funny thing is; when you seem eternally lost and have no light to guide you, life has a way of tossing you a match to light the way.
We all struggle. We all have days when we aren't sure about the choices we're making. It doesn't matter who you are, how powerful you are or how much money you have. Even the most powerful business people struggle with self-doubt, self-image and loneliness sometimes. We all second-guess ourselves. We all feel lost sometimes. We all have days when we feel alone in the world. We all struggle to find meaning. This doesn't make us weak; it makes us human.
When I was at my worst this week a friend said to me "One of the most important lessons I had to learn was to surround myself with a network of people who can help me when I can't help myself." She was right. I didn't need people to solve my problems for me; all I needed was someone to talk to so I could find my way around in the dark.
This is an important lesson for everyone. No matter who you are or where you are in your life. None of us can make it on our own forever. We need people around us to help us, to listen to us. Mostly we need people to support us when we aren't sure if we can stand on our own.
The day after I spoke to her about how I was feeling someone who is on a journey similar to mine contacted me. I think this was life's way of reminding me that I'm not alone. Even when I feel alone in this journey of mine, I'm not. There are people all around the world who are on journeys of their own to find happiness. There are other people struggling with self-image, self-love and self-doubt.
Remember that no matter who you are or where you find yourself in life, you are never alone.
